Urokinase Activity Assay Kit (Fluorometric) (ab174098) uses an AMC-based peptide substrate containing the
recognition sequence for Urokinase. Urokinase present in the sample catalyzes the cleavage of the substrate and
releases AMC, which can be easily quantified by measuring its fluorescence at Ex/Em = 350/450 nm. This sensitive
assay detects very low levels of Urokinase activity in biological samples as well as purified enzymes (as low as 0.02
IU/ml).

This product is manufactured by BioVision, an Abcam company and was previously called K728 Urokinase Activity
Fluorometric Assay Kit. K728-100 is the same size as the 100 test size of ab174098.
Urokinase type plasminogen activator (uPA) is a highly restricted serine protease that converts the zymogen
plasminogen to active plasmin, a broad-spectrum serine proteinase capable of degrading most of the major protein
components of the extracellular matrix. Binding of uPA to its receptor and subsequent uPA mediated pericellular
proteolysis are involved in many process including cell migration and tissue remodelling in angiogenesis,
atherogenesis, tumor cell metastasis, and ovulation. High level of uPA is a poor prognostic marker for aggressive
breast cancer, aggressive prostate cancer, bladder cancer and gastric cancer.
